Sharpie Permanent Markers

Sharpie  //  Sharpie was invented in 1964 and is the number one selling permanent marker in the world. Since its introduction, Sharpie has developed a loyal following and a wide array of uses – from autograph signing to fine art. The full line of Sharpie markers is perfect for people who want to express themselves and "uncap what's inside."

The Sharpie permanent marker was the first pen-style permanent marker. Today it is the preferred autograph marker of athletes, celebrities, politicians and more. A high quality tip and superior ink allows users to write on virtually any surface – from wood and stone to plastic and metal and, of course, paper.

MISSION: To inspire people to "uncap what's inside" and express themselves creatively!

How Do You Do-odle? | Sharpie Markers Official Blog

by Sharpie

I was doodling with my Sharpie Pen during a call this morning when I realized that this happens more frequently than not.  Usually I don%u2019t even notice I%u2019m doing it when BAM! a tidal wave of ink has crashed upon my notebook!

  1. What can I do with these drawings?  They are not necessarily frame worthy and FOR SURE no one wants to buy these %u2013 I don%u2019t even have 1,000 followers on Twitter yet!
  2. I know for a fact that I%u2019m not the only person who does this (that%u2019s right VP, I saw your Moleskin!)
  3. Later on at a meeting - I%u2019m going to move my notebook over juuust a tad so you can see my doodle.  I%u2019m not going to actually show it to you; you%u2019re going to %u201Dhappen%u201D to glance at it freely, uninhibited.  %u201CYeah, that%u2019s right dude look at it.. we both know that%u2019s a pretty good doodle.%u201D

*3 really has no relevance, I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever done this :)

Take a look at the edge of your note pad, planner, books, sticky notes, printed out power point slides, maybe even your hands or shoes.  (go! look!)  It%u2019s something that just happens %u2013 something comes over you and you just draw!  There are probably hundreds of little doodles all over the place and what do you do with those doodles? Nothing!  There aren%u2019t enough homes to share these one of a kind drawings why not show them some more love?

I%u2019ve made a  %u201DDoodle%u201D album on Facebook ( maybe down the road a better name will hit me).  Here we can share our random doodles that typically don%u2019t get much recognition- sometimes they are really dumb, inspirational, silly, random, pretty, whatever, but let%u2019s show them off!  This is a %u201Cno sliding the notebook%u201D towards someone, this is a full out  %u201CCheck out what I drew while you were yammering on about the new printer policy.%u201D  I%u2019ve posted some of my doodles and will continue to :) Post your doodles too!

Here are a couple of mine you will find on Facebook:

These are a few of my favorite (Sharpie) doodlers:

Sharpie Art on Converse AllStars for Renee « Multiple Muse Disorder

by Sharpie

There is something about art on your feet.  I love these and making these are a blast.  I received a request for custom sharpie art on Chuck Taylor AllStars.  I’ve posted finished art before, but here is a progression if you’re interested.

They're here!!

A list of all of her favorite things.

The blank canvas and a basket of juicy Sharpies.

Committed now!!

Sharpies and coffee.

Too bad the tongues get laced up.

Wings on her heels.

Sharpies over a dirty vokda martini.

More Sharpies and more coffee.

Sharpies over Diet Pepsi. Are these all the same note?

Sharpies over Newcastle Brown Ale.

That is a really good beer. Oh yeah, Renee likes stamps and her initials. So I combined them.

Have you tried Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi? Oh, yeah hearts, clock parts and guitars.

Tah Dah!!

Good bye Converse Chuck Taylor AllStars.  May you live a full existence with Renee’s favorite things covered in Sharpie ink.  Pheww, I need another cup of coffee.

Safe and sound on their intended gallery.

Oh, and these are going on Facebook Project 50/1.

"Introduce myself to my chidlren. Connect all my freckles with a Sharpie. Play Beatles Rock Band until I reach "Level Yoko." Make a cameo apperance on Gossip Girl as Blaine Wilcox, mysterious albino playboy. Legally change my name to "No Show Jones." Finally make good on my plan to backpack through India with The Situation. Return La Bamba to the kindly old carpenter who made him. Have my 'TONIGHT SHOW FOREVER' tattoo changed to 'OH, SHOW OVER?" - Conan "CoCo" O'Brien

Sharpie du Jour | Sharpie Markers Official Blog

by Sharpie

I’ve known for a while now that Sharpie markers are used for a wide range of purposes.  From the day to day things like taking notes and writing letters, to customizing outfits and fashion accessories, to all kinds of home decor and wall art, to gift giving and gift wrapping, the list goes on… and while I’ve done the whole labeling my tupperware, files and folders, for whatever reason, it never crossed my mind that a chef could fall madly in love with Sharpie markers too!

In fact, blogger @BehindTheKnife brought this to my attention the other day (thanks Knifey!) I checked out the blog and yes, in fact CHEFS DO LOVE SHARPIE! Don’t believe me, see for yourself.  The post is titled “The Love Tool: I Heart My Sharpies!”

btk

For a quick summary, four tops chefs were asked to tell their love of Sharpie markers…

1) Personal chef, Charity Dasenbrock of Santa Cruz, California, says “They’re  invaluable for my food labels since they’re highly visible and waterproof. My current client also likes things color-coded, so all the food for one meal gets labeled in one color while another meal gets a different color, which makes it fun for me”

2) Executive chef at The Boathouse Restuarant in Traverse City, MI, Eric Nittolo reveals, “The Sharpie is as important as my knife…”  Keeping it in his coat pocket, this chef uses a Sharpie to date products, write ticket orders, write on dry erase boards and even the front of the house uses Rectractable Sharpie markers to take reservations.

“They are mere Sharpies to some but to the restaurant world they are special.”

 -Chef Eric Nittolo

3) “Because the kitchen is such a fast-paced wet/dry environment, I need something that I can count on to stay put when I write. I like to know that when I label something or set the rotation that I don’t have to worry about it disappearing..” proclaims Executive Chef Christian Thornton of Atria Restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard.  Using his Sharpie for multiple reasons, this chef  “gets upset when one walks off.”  Therefore, Thornton says, “I store them in my pockets, in every free space in the kitchen and at the hostess stand. I am never without.”

4) Self-proclaimed Sharpie lover, Ivan Pahk, executive chef at Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Kapalua & Kihei, Maui, carries a Sharpie at all times.  “I have one in my collar at least 16 hours a day. I have one in my office, I have one roped up in the kitchen.”

While you’re at it, Behind the Knife also has a couple other recent posts giving Sharpie shoutouts: Check out Chef Michael Roberts sharing his Toolbox essentials in, and get an insider read on the Food Network star, Anthony Bourdain.

Do you use your Sharpie markers around the kitchen? Share your culinary expertise and tell us how!

Big thanks to Behind the Knife for sharing this insight!
